Treatment of Sports-Related Injuries (“Sports Medicine”)
The prevention, diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries and medical problems is a specialized medical field known as “Sports Medicine.” It is essentially a combination of surgical and non-surgical orthopaedic care (care for your bones, muscles and joints) and care for other medical conditions, which can be brought on by - or complicated by - active participation in sports, such as asthma, diabetes or high blood pressure.
If you have a sports-related injury our team of Board Certified Orthopaedic surgeons and Sports Medicine doctors at Excelsior includes nationally recognized leaders in the field of Sports Medicine. Our medical teams will help educate and decide if surgery is required. Using state-of-the-art technology, and the most advanced arthroscopic (minimally invasive) procedures, including the repair of torn meniscus, or knee ligaments like the “ACL” (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) and “MCL” (Medial Collateral Ligament), as well as procedures to address hip or shoulder problems, and those designed to preserve or restore cartilage.
Excelsior is also home to two of WNY’s Board Certified Primary Care Sports Medicine doctors. Their expertise on issues such as sport-related concussions and the use of the most advanced testing procedures and technology, such as musculoskeletal ultrasound and exercise-induced asthma testing, offer an incredibly valuable resource to athletes of all ages and skill levels in WNY.
