Dangers Surrounding the Under Reporting of Concussion Signs & Symptoms.

May 28, 2020 7:00pm - 8:15pm

Dangers Surrounding the Under Reporting of Concussion Signs & Symptoms.

Excelsior Orthopaedics is pleased to host Ray Ciancaglini to speak about his experience with concussions and his extraordinary efforts to advance concussion awareness for athletes of all ages, parents, coaches and administrators.

About The Speaker: Ray Ciancaglini is a former professional boxer and award winning concussion awareness advocate. His personal story was featured nationally by ABC News which has been the subject of two New York Associated Press and New York News Publishers Award-winning stories. Ray has dedicated his life to telling his story surrounding the mistakes he made as an athlete by not addressing concussions properly and the consequences he currently lives with as a result.

Ray has been instrumental in getting the Concussion Management and Awareness Act passed into New York State Law and founded The Second Impact Foundation (thesecondimpact.com). Through The Second Impact Foundation, Ray has presented at numerous colleges, high schools and organizations throughout the county- including: St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, Williamsville Central Schools, the Cleveland Clinic and the Dr. Robert Cantu Concussion Center. More recently, Ray’s full story is available via the book Second Impact co-authored by Andy Siegel. Ray is a native of Geneva, NY and lives with his wife Patti.

Testimonial: “ Last year the Williamsville Coaches had the opportunity to hear a presentation from Ray Ciancaglini. Our coaching group is approximately 200 people. I can honestly tell you that you could hear a pin drop in our auditorium. Rays speech was so moving it brought several coaches to tears. Listening to Ray speak about his experiences hit home for a lot of our staff. His presentation is wonderful/educating and something that I know all coaching staffs would benefit from hearing.” – Chris Mucica, Williamsville Schools District Director of Athletics

Who Should Attend: All are welcome to participate, but Student-athletes, coaches, school administrators, parents and Certified Athletic Trainers will likely receive the most value from this presentation.

Why This is Important:  Sport concussion symptoms are often underreported in the student-athlete population. Further education is needed for student-athletes, coaches, school administrators and parents surrounding the importance of immediate recognition of a concussion and subsequent treatment/rest indicated based on individual presentation.
