About Dr. Keating

Dr. Keating is a board certified podiatrist who treats all types of foot conditions. His approach to care is empathetic, focusing on truly listening to his patients and developing a treatment plan that addresses the whole problem. He treats a wide variety of foot issues, both surgical and non-surgical, including diabetic foot care, dermatological issues, fractures, plantar fasciitis and bunion treatment. He often recommends conservative treatments first, with surgical repairs as a last resort.

Outside of work, Dr. Keating enjoys spending time with his wife and his four grown children. Podiatry runs in the family for the Keatings - his father was a podiatrist, and his brother, Dr. Sean Keating, is also a podiatrist at Excelsior. His son, Dr. Chris Keating, recently joined the practice as well. Dr. Keating has always enjoyed exercising and living an active lifestyle. From biking and running to tennis and other sports, his exact pursuits change but he’s always staying active. Lately, he’s been enjoying golf, which he believes is the great equalizer in athletics.

What are some of the exciting newer developments in podiatry?

“One of the new developments in the last 10-15 years is shockwave therapy. Shockwave therapy is a high-frequency sound wave put directly over the area causing pain. It causes microtrauma through these deep sound waves hitting the plantar fascia, which promotes and starts a new healing process. Many patients become completely pain-free, avoiding surgery and painful injections. It’s a real game changer for treating plantar fasciitis, but it can be used to treat a number of foot conditions.”

What is the most exciting place you’ve traveled?

“Several years ago, one of my children was studying abroad and we had the opportunity to go visit him for seven days. We spent three days in Barcelona, then three days in Rome. It was almost life-changing to see the difference in their lifestyles and the thousands of years of history. In Rome, we could look at the Coliseum, built over a thousand years ago, on the left, and then walk across the street and be on public transportation . To see thousands of years of difference in technology was quite an experience.”
