Physician Assistant
Lori Ann Gmerek is a certified physician assistant, and a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. She has worked alongside Dr. Kevin Lanighan since 2003, and enjoys being a part of a team with a physician to take care of patients. She pursued a career as a physician assistant because of the flexibility in a work/family life balance that it affords, and the opportunities to work in different fields. Along with working in both office and surgical settings at Excelsior, she also works in Emergency Medicine several times a month. Lori and her husband have two young daughters and a rescue dog named Mork. When she's not seeing patients at Excelsior, Lori enjoys taking dance classes and horseback riding.
What is your approach to patient care?
I have worked with Dr. Lanighan for many years and I feel we really work well as a team. When I see patients I keep Dr. Lanighan informed. I work in the operating room with him also so I have a good understanding of the surgery side and I try to take the time to explain things in a way patients can understand. Sounds simple but our approach is to treat patients like family. We understand how difficult it can be when you get hurt or have to have surgery and try to help you through it.
