Kind Words From a Past Patient

Date: September 15, 2014 Category: Uncategorized

At Excelsior Orthopaedics, it has always been our mission to treat our patients as if they were our own family and provide the highest level of care possible to everyone that walks through our doors. Even though we successfully treat many patients every day, we don’t always get to hear the success stories of their recoveries and how we’ve impacted their lives. That makes it even more powerful when we hear from our past patients.

We recently received a letter from Maribeth Jennings, the mother of an Excelsior patient, and her words were so strong and touching that we thought we’d share them with you:

Dear Dr. Callahan,
In December of 2011, our daughter Hannah came home from college for Christmas break.  She was an art major at Houghton College.  As part of her curriculum, she had recently been trained in how to make frames and wanted to complete a frame for a painting she was going to give us for a Christmas present.  The very night she returned home she requested permission to use our table saw.  With a strong admonition to be careful, we allowed her and her brothers to go to the basement of our house and begin working on the project.  Our old model saw was not equipped with the same safety technology she had available at school. Unfortunately, an accident occurred and she seriously injured all of her fingers on her left hand.  You operated on her hand just before Christmas.  Almost a year of recuperation and therapy followed.

Hand Survery

When Hannah got married this past July, the photographer captured this gorgeous shot of her hand and I immediately thought about the trauma that hand had been through.  We are so grateful to you for your skill, care and time spent in repairing the damage done that night in December.  It makes me so appreciative of the time and effort it takes to gain the knowledge to do what you do.

I also thought that you may not often hear the “rest of the story,” so here is Hannah’s.  Her hands are now being put to great use as an elementary art teacher in North Carolina.  Thank you so much.

We extend our sincerest thanks to Maribeth and Hannah for sharing their story with us, and as we do with all our patients, we wish them only the best!
