About Dr. Vargo
Dr. Vargo is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in adult total joint reconstruction of the hip and knee. He is able to perform the most advanced surgical techniques, and trained under renowned leaders in the field. He approaches each patient as an opportunity to improve a life - he does not take the privilege of patient care lightly, and is committed to helping patients reach their goals. He strives to make sure patients feel comfortable and heard, and works hard to earn their trust.
Outside of work, Dr. Vargo and his wife have a child, and they enjoy spending time with friends and family, as well as traveling. In his free time, Dr. Vargo might be found golfing, fishing or snowboarding. He has always been an athlete, playing football and lacrosse at St. Francis High School. As a Buffalo native, Dr. Vargo is excited to be back home, taking care of patients in the city he loves.
What drew you to a career in orthopaedics?
“I have always had a love for science, a desire to help others, and have enjoyed working with my hands. I decided in high school that I wanted to pursue a career in medicine. When I was in college I shadowed several surgeons that were family friends and immediately knew that it was the field for me. Early on in residency I was able to see first hand how big of a difference a new hip or knee replacement could make in a patient's quality of life. It was during this time, when I was first exposed to orthopaedic surgery, that I saw how big a difference I could make in the lives of my patients by restoring their mobility and function.”
What was your favorite place to travel?
“My wife Alicia and I love to travel and discover new places and cuisine. My favorite place I’ve traveled to is Barcelona, Spain. The architecture was fascinating, and the food there was amazing!”
