Patient Feedback
About Dr. Luzi
Dr. Luzi is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee care. His approach to patient care is rooted in education - he considers himself a regular guy who has medical skills and knowledge to share, and he uses that combination to make sure patients understand all their options. He favors a conservative approach, trying simple and non-surgical options before suggesting surgery or joint replacements.
Dr. Luzi and his family are avid skiers. He played college football, and now enjoys cycling and hockey. His wife is a family care physician, and together they have four daughters, two of whom have followed them into the medical field. As a native New Yorker, he was a Rangers fan growing up, but has since converted to the Sabres.
Why did you choose to become a physician?
“My father was a civil engineer, and I thought I would grow up to be a civil engineer and work with him. He told me, ‘you don’t want to be an engineer. I just construct buildings. You want to take care of people.’ And I thought, OK - I’m going to do that. It was my Forrest Gump moment, and I stuck with it. I chose orthopaedics because I knew I wanted to be a surgeon, but wasn’t interested in constantly dealing with life or death situations.”
After growing up in New York, what do you like best about Buffalo?
"I was born in Brooklyn and I grew up in Staten Island, but I've been in Buffalo since 1984. I love the lack of traffic, and the lack of crowdedness. I like the suburbs and not being surrounded by a lot of people. In 5 minutes I can be in farmland with my bicycle. And you can actually get tickets to shows, hockey games - you might even know the coach. You don't get that in New York."
