About Dr. Zinno
Dr. Zinno is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist with a background in engineering and a passion for endurance sports. He specializes in total joint replacements, and offers orthobiologic treatments as an alternative to surgery When you’re in the room with Dr. Zinno, he strives to make sure you’re relaxed and comfortable. His approach is to listen first, in order to get as much information on your symptoms and lifestyle as possible, so that you can work together to decide on the best treatment plan.
Outside of work, Dr. Zinno is an athlete himself. He has two blackbelts in martial arts, he completed 15 Ironman triathlons and is still an avid cycler and swimmer. These days, he’s more likely to push himself in athletic pursuits for a cause, like the Ride for Roswell and Carly’s Crossing, which give him the chance to combine two lifelong interests - endurance sports and helping others.
How is sports medicine changing?
“Medicine continues to evolve at a fast pace. It’s exciting because there are a lot of good things on the horizon, especially with biologic treatments for multiple conditions, and more patient-specific care with shoulder & knee replacement. It meshes well with my education and the thought processes of being an engineer as well as my passion to continue to improve patient care.”
What’s your favorite movie?
“Rudy! It was filmed at Notre Dame while I was there. It’s the story of a kid who had nothing and made something of himself, and reached every goal that he wanted to achieve. A lot of my friends are in the background, in the dining hall and other scenes, and I remember seeing the film crews on campus. Watching it always reminds me of my college days.”
What kind of environment do you create for your patients?
“I hope when my patients are in the room they feel relaxed and that they’re given enough time. I think I provide a good listening environment - an environment that’s not only compassionate, but educational. I want patients to understand not only what their treatment will be, but why. They should leave educated and comfortable with their treatment plan.
