Patient Feedback
About Dr. Ostempowski
Dr. Ostempowski is a board-certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in arthritis care and joint replacement surgery, including Outpatient Total Joint hip and knee replacement procedures. His ability to communicate with patients of all backgrounds in language they understand, in a way that allows them to understand what’s happening, what to expect, and what the options are, is one of the things that has led to his successful career. Dr. Ostempowski aims to ensure every patient is as comfortable as possible in his care - he understands that you may be nervous, and will try to assuage any anxiety you may be feeling.
When he’s not working. Dr. Ostempowski is spending time with his wife and son, cheering him on from the side of the baseball diamond and basketball court. He loves sports, and as a born-and-raised Buffalonian will always root for the Sabres. He enjoys going out for a simple date night with his wife, social events with friends, and just making the most of the time he has with his family.
What drew you to a career in orthopaedics?
“My parents say that when I was really young I wanted to be a dentist. I have no idea why I would’ve said that, it doesn’t sound appealing to me at all, but that’s what they say. You could say I knew fairly early on, in high school, that I wanted to practice medicine, and pretty early in medical school that surgery was the right path for me. I wanted to use my hands - I could use a hammer and a saw pretty well, which led me down the track of orthopaedics. I like the idea of having tangible results and knowing that the things I do are truly making a difference in patients’ lives.”
Do you have a favorite book?
“I’ve been coaching my son a little, so I’ve recently read a few coaching books. Mike Matheny, the former MLB player and manager, came up with what was eventually known as The Matheny Manifesto. He wrote a book about it, and it’s a philosophical idea of what youth sports should look like, and what’s really our goal with them. It was a fascinating read from a guy who’s worked at the highest levels of professional athlete bringing it down to say, ‘let’s do this properly for the kids, so they get the most out of it.’”
