Patient Feedback
About Dr. McGrath
Dr. McGrath is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder replacements and shoulder arthroscopy, such as rotator cuff repairs. Dr. McGrath approaches every treatment plan with a shared decision making process, empowering patients to make the right choice with his guidance. He wants you to feel confident in his knowledge and abilities, and relaxed and comfortable in his care.
For Dr. McGrath, orthopaedic surgery perfectly merges his interests in anatomy, biology and sports. He keeps active with cross country skiing, fly fishing and time with his wife and four children. He enjoys woodworking and home improvement projects, and can often be found playing golf or watching the Bills and the Red Sox. Though he’s a man with many interests, his family is always his top priority.
What are some of the most exciting advances in orthopaedic surgery?
“We’ve come a long way with outpatient surgery options. For example, regional nerve blocks let us numb a patient’s arm or leg up for surgery so they can go home afterwards without excruciating pain - oftentimes, pain management after a surgery can be antiinflammatories and Tylenol, we don’t have to rely on narcotics. It’s made surgery a lot more comfortable for patients.”
What’s one of your favorite hobbies?
“I like to fly fish. I’ve been doing it since I was kid. When I was about 10 years old, my parents bought me a fly tying kit. It takes a little more skill. If you can catch a fish from something that you tied and created yourself, it’s much more of an accomplishment.”
