EXCELSIOR ORTHOPAEDCIS TO OPEN NEW PHYSICAL & OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY CENTER IN THE CITY OF BUFFALO

Date: August 3, 2020 Category: Uncategorized

(BUFFALO, N.Y.) –  Excelsior Orthopaedics will soon open a new physical and occupational therapy center in the City of Buffalo.

The new facility, which will be located in the Main Court building at 438 Main Street, formerly CVS Pharmacy, will offer comprehensive rehabilitation services for patients of all ages who are either recovering from an orthopaedic surgical procedure or pursuing therapy as an alternative to surgery.

Original plans were set to have Excelsior’s downtown physical and occupational therapy center  open in early May, 2020.  Due to COVID-19, plans were delayed and the new opening date is set for early fall 2020.  The new location will augment the rehabilitation services that Excelsior has provided for more than 15 years at its medical campus on Sheridan Drive in Amherst, and its offices in East Amherst, Orchard Park and Niagara Falls.

“With so many of our patients living and working in the City of Buffalo, we believe it’s important for them to have convenient access to the physical and occupational therapy they need,” said  Alanna Pokorski, Excelsior’s Director of Physical & Occupational Therapy.  “Our new downtown facility will give them that access.  Patients who live and work downtown can come to see us prior to the start their workday, during their lunch hour or as their last stop before heading home for the evening.”

One of the things that sets Excelsior apart from other local providers is the fact that its physicians and therapists work in close collaboration to design and implement a highly customized treatment plan for each patient, taking into consideration any current conditions, but also all other relevant medical considerations.

Excelsior’s downtown physical and occupational therapy center will be a 4,380 square-foot facility that will include state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment.  The Buffalo “PT/OT” team will be led by Jeanneth King, PT, DPT, ATC, a talented manager with dual certifications who has been with the Excelsior Orthopaedics physical and occupational therapy team for the last five years.  Stephanie Smigiera, PT, DPT will join the Buffalo office, and Justine Smith, MS OTR/L will round out the clinical team providing occupational therapy.

“We see the need for more physical and occupational therapy services to serve patients in the City of Buffalo – those who live there, as well as those who commute for work – so we’re very pleased to provide those much-needed services in our new downtown therapy center,” Pokorski said.  “We have an extremely talented, dedicated team of therapists who take a very practical, ‘functional’ approach to therapy – one that focuses on restoring a patient’s ability to perform the activities of daily: at home, at work, at school, and at play.  And professionally, it’s great to see some of our most experienced, accomplished therapists like Jeanneth, Stephanie and Justine have the opportunity to manage and grow a facility like this.”
