Healthy Eating = Healthy Heart

Date: February 23, 2022 Category: Uncategorized

As we celebrate National Heart Health Month in February, it is a good time to pause and assess if our food intake is in alignment with preventing or managing cardiovascular diseases (CVD).  Your food choices have a direct influence on not only your weight status, but your heart health also.

Do you know your numbers?  When is the last time you checked in with your primary care physician to check your lipid panel (total cholesterol TC, LDL-C, HDL-C, triglycerides)?  Following heart healthy nutrition recommendations can help you improve your numbers if they are elevated.

Are you monitoring your weight trends?  Did you know that as little as 5% to 10% weight loss can influence positive health outcomes?

Plans such as Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (“DASH” Diet) or the American Heart Assocation’s Nutrition Guidelines can assist you with managing your heart health with general food recommendations.  Working with a registered dietitian is of further benefit to learn customized, enjoyable food options that fit your lifestyle, budget, and health needs.  A dietitian is part of your healthcare team and can collaborate care with your primary care provider, cardiologists and other specialists.

We have a team of four registered dietitians at Excelsior Balanced Nutrition ready to meet with you and guide you towards improved health.  Your health insurance benefits may cover the visit for $0 copay.  Learn more here or call us at (716) 837-1145 to ask questions and to make appointments.
