JASON MATUSZAK, MD NAMED PRESIDENT OF STATEWIDE FAMILY MEDICINE ACADEMY

(BUFFALO, N.Y.) –  Today, Dr. Jason Matuszak, a Primary Care Physician specializing in Sports Medicine and a Partner at Excelsior Orthopaedics was named President of the New York State Academy of Family Physicians (NYSAFP) at the Academy’s annual Congress of Delegates in Albany, New York.  Dr. Matuszak will serve a one-year term as President of the Academy, having been elected to that position by his peers earlier this year.

The NYSAFP is the New York chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians.  The NYSAFP represents more than 6,000 family physicians and medical students throughout the state and provides advocacy, education and information for its members. 

Prior to his election as its President, Dr. Matuszak held several positions of leadership in the  NYSAFP.  He has served as the Academy’s president-elect, vice-president, speaker of the Congress of Delegates and vice-speaker.

“On behalf of our entire membership, we extend our sincere congratulations to Dr. Matuszak on this well-deserved position,” said Vito F. Grasso, Executive Vice President of the NYSAFP in statement issued by the Academy.

A Western New York native, Dr. Matuszak received his Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his medical degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University at Syracuse.  He then did his Internship and Residency in Family Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY, before going on the complete a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine, Manoa, HI. 

In addition to his Sports Medicine practice at Excelsior, Dr. Matuszak holds the title of Associate Team Physician for the Buffalo Bisons, the Triple A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays.  He is also heavily involved in advocacy efforts on behalf of family medicine in New York State – most notably having contributed to the crafting of concussion management policy with both the State Legislature and the State Education Department.
