Support Excelsior Orthopaedics’ food drive!

Date: January 19, 2022 Category: Uncategorized

Excelsior Orthopaedics is teaming up with West Side Community Services (WSCS) for our food drive this year! In past years, team member Francine Young Martinez led this important project. In Francine’s absence, the Advocacy and Community Involvement pillar and is running the drive and keeping Francine’s big-hearted momentum going.

As the committee looked for a meaningful place to support, physical therapist Neddie King, of our Buffalo facility, became an executive board member of WSCS. Then, as we considered WSCS through a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion framework, we learned just how important this organization is to serving lower income neighborhoods on the West Side and many refugee families. All the while, we want to serve the communities in which we have a presence.

We want to create an even stronger bond with our community by donating food to WSCS’s food pantry, called Provisions 139, which serves about 1,000 people a month.

WSCS Executive Director Crystal Selk brought this vision to help a specific need come to life, and we will support this philanthropic effort through our food drive, which will begin this Friday, January 21 through Monday, February 21.

Starting Friday, you will see Excelsior-blue bins in the registration areas at each of our locations. Our ask of each team members and patients interested in participating is to please donate two non-perishable items in these bins, which can include high-demand products such as vegetarian options, baby food, and diapers. Provisions 139 wants to feed its community with dignity, so we cannot accept expired or opened items. Our contributions will go on the pantry’s community shelves, which are not rationed, and the pantry does not require those in need to produce proof of income.

We are encouraging as much participation as possible to give to this truly amazing organization. With the generosity of the holiday season behind us, now is the perfect time to help keep a local food pantry stocked. Thank you for your support, and ever upward!
