Dislocated Shoulder

Dislocated Shoulder

A dislocated shoulder occurs when part or all of the humerus bone comes out of the socket it is attached to at the collarbone. Dislocation of the shoulder can cause serious pain and instability in the joint and is usually accompanied by symptoms such as swelling, numbness, bruising, and loss of range of motion.

Getting to a doctor who can diagnose and treat a dislocated shoulder is a critical first step in treatment. The severe pain associated with the injury will subside almost immediately after the shoulder is returned to its socket, so you'll want to see a specialist as quickly as possible. A recovery regimen may then be prescribed to help get your shoulder back to normal depending on how serious the dislocation is.

If you need to see a doctor to treat a dislocated shoulder, call our Express urgent care clinic, and set up an appointment right away. To find out more information about dislocated shoulders, check out this guide from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
